Tyler & Amanda’s Secret Proposal at Katla Ice Cave

Tyler reached out just a few weeks before their trip to Iceland, looking to plan a secret proposal that felt icy, dramatic, and unforgettable. They were visiting at the end of January, so we knew there was a good chance for snow and winter magic—and nature absolutely delivered.

The couple had booked a private Katla Ice Cave tour with Katlatrack, and I arranged to meet them there as their “tour photographer.” The idea was to keep everything a surprise for Amanda. We even had a little code phrase ready—”This spot would be perfect for a photo”—to set the moment in motion.

On the day of the shoot, a storm was fast approaching the South Coast, and this turned out to be the last tour of the day before all others were canceled. Despite the winds and snowy weather, everything aligned perfectly. The cave was quiet, the scenery was unreal, and even an arctic fox wandered by as if on cue.

Tyler proposed inside the cave, surrounded by blue ice and volcanic rock, with no one else in sight. Amanda said yes, and we followed it up with a few more photos before heading back through the storm.

These are the kind of moments I love capturing—natural, emotional, and full of personal meaning.
