Timothy & Samantha | Surprise Proposal in Iceland

On May 26th, 2024 I had the incredible opportunity to capture Timothy and Samantha’s unforgettable proposal at the breathtaking Kvernufoss waterfall.

Kvernufoss is 30-meters high and half hidden away in a gorge 2 hours from Reykjavik towards the South Coast of Iceland. The trail is about a mile in length and very popular for walking and hiking.

On May 26th, 2024 I had the incredible opportunity to capture Timothy and Samantha’s unforgettable proposal at the breathtaking Kvernufoss waterfall.

Kvernufoss is 30-meters high and half hidden away in a gorge 2 hours from Reykjavik towards the South Coast of Iceland. The trail is about a mile in length and very popular for walking and hiking.

Timothy emailed me in February with a detailed plan to surprise his girlfriend Samantha with a proposal in Iceland. Sam was leaving for a two part trip to Finland and Iceland with her roommates and Timothy told her that unfortunately due to budget restrictions, he would need to stay in Michigan.

Little did she know that behind the scenes he had been meticulously planning for months. He worked with her roommates and their mutual friends to keep the secret, even going so far as to send Samantha old cat photos during her trip to make her believe he was still in Michigan. Timothy flew to Iceland a couple days before the proposal to scout out the perfect location and ensure everything would go off without a hitch.

The day of the proposal arrived and the weather was lovely. I met Timothy at Kvernufoss and we made our way into the canyon where the waterfall is located. Around midnight Samantha and her friends arrived, they all encouraged her to explore the canyon before the waterfall. Samantha made her way down the muddy rocks, and was completely taken aback when she saw Tim. The look of surprise and joy on her face was priceless, and the photos captured that magical moment perfectly.

After the proposal, the couple celebrated with a romantic photoshoot amidst the Icelandic landscape. The late-night setting only added to the magic of the moment, creating a romantic and unforgettable atmosphere.

Sam later described the experience as a fairytale, and it’s easy to see why, Tim’s thoughtful planning, the stunning location, and the element of surprise combined to create a truly unforgettable moment. It was a privilege to capture such a special moment for this couple.
