Kerry & Steven came to Iceland for a relaxed and stress-free wedding day. No big plan, no timeline pressure — just the two of them, the landscape, and a day of exploring together. The weather was wet, windy and unpredictable, but they fully embraced it, which made their photos even better.
Þakgil — greenery, waterfalls & a dress that instantly turned muddy
We met in Þakgil first, surrounded by moss, cliffs and a small waterfall pool. It was muddy from the start — her dress was dragging through wet ground immediately, but she didn’t care at all. They walked, danced, explored, ran through soft rain, and enjoyed having the whole place to themselves. No crowds, no rush, just nature.

Windy viewpoint — river braids & a flying dress

On the drive back toward Vík, we stopped at a viewpoint with a wide view over braided glacial rivers. It suddenly got extremely windy — the kind of wind that grabs a dress and sends it sideways. They leaned into it, laughed through it, and let the moment be what it was. The movement made some of the best photos of the day.

Víkurfjara black sand beach — vows, waves & privacy
Their ceremony was on Víkurfjara beach, not the main tourist side of Reynisfjara — a quieter area with only a few people in the distance. Just two vows, two rings, black sand and nothing extra. It felt nice, simple, and personal.

Lupine field & Skógafoss — muddy, wet, and worth every step
On the way to Skógafoss we stopped at a lupine field with the waterfall in the background. Still muddy, still windy — and still fun. From there we continued to Skógafoss itself. The waterfall was flooded, so we stepped across rocks, shoes soaking, to get closer to the majestic waterfall. They didn’t try to stay clean or dry — they just enjoyed the moment.

A real Iceland elopement — not about perfect weather
It was built around the two of them being together and enjoying the day.
If you’re planning an Iceland elopement that’s relaxed, weather-proof, and about the experience more than perfection, I’d love to photograph it. To prepare yourself, keep an eye on the weather here!
