Iceland Elopement at Glacier Lagoon & Black Sand Beach

Some elopement days just fall perfectly into place — and this one really did. Between days of wind and rain, Cathy and Sheldon woke up to calm skies, sunshine, and that rare stillness that makes Iceland feel like another world. They travelled all the way from Texas for a day that was just for them — no stress, no rush, just the two of them exploring waterfalls, glaciers, and black-sand beaches along Iceland’s South Coast.

Getting Ready at Black Sand Suites

We started the morning at Black Sand Suites, where Cathy and Sheldon got ready and shared their first look in the bright late-September sun. The light was golden and warm (as warm as Iceland gets), and you could already feel how special the day would be. He wore his cowboy hat and boots — a little Texas touch that somehow felt right at home against the Icelandic backdrop.

Their first look took place outside the suites with the ocean behind them, perfectly calm and full of color. It was the start of what turned into one of the most peaceful days I’ve seen all year.

A Change of Plans and a Hidden Waterfall

The original plan was to begin at Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, but the area was closed that morning because of high waves. We still managed a few photos from the side. Our next stop was Stjórnarfoss, a small waterfall tucked away from the crowds. We had it completely to ourselves.

“We can’t say enough amazing things about Caroline! From the very first conversation, she made us feel completely comfortable and understood our vision for our elopement perfectly. She captured every emotion and detail — the laughter, the quiet moments, the breathtaking scenery — in such an authentic and beautiful way.

What stood out most was how easy and natural everything felt. Caroline guided us when we needed direction but also gave us space to just be ourselves. The result? Photos that look and feel like us — genuine, romantic, and full of joy.

The final gallery blew us away. Every image tells a story, and we’ll treasure them for the rest of our lives. If you’re considering eloping and want someone who will not only document your day but also make it an unforgettable experience, Caroline is the one. Truly one of the best decisions we made!”

Glacier Views and Vows

From there, we continued toward Svínafellsjökull Glacier, which looked as majestic as ever. The texture of the ice, the blue tones, and the surrounding mountains made it feel like a movie scene.

Later, Cathy and Sheldon exchanged their vows at Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon, standing by a small pond, which without wind, gave a beautiful reflection of them.

Sunset at Vestrahorn

We ended the day at Vestrahorn, one of my favorite places in Iceland for elopements. The pond in front of the dunes gave us beautiful reflections again, and as the temperature cooled, they lit lanterns and watched the last light fade.

It was the calmest ending to an already perfect day — full of laughter, warmth, and the kind of quiet that feels impossible anywhere else.

Thinking About Your Own Elopement in Iceland?

Cathy and Sheldon’s day is a reminder of what eloping in Iceland can really be — stress-free, spontaneous, and full of beauty in every direction. Whether you imagine saying your vows by a glacier lagoon, beneath a waterfall, or at sunset on a black-sand beach, there’s a place here waiting for you.
